Borden singer-songwriter, Joe Booley has this week released a brand new track - 'Not a Fairytale', the first on the newly formed Beth Shalom Records.
We've been a fan for a while now, having reviewed a previous single release back in April 2014, Joe then played our SummerFest gig last summer and also features with a demo track on our latest local compilation 'Doorstep - Volume 2'. So we were really pleased to hear new music was on it's way and see what direction things were taking following the start of something a bit more experimental during his live show for us.
'Not a Fairytale' is a dark and moody piece, in places the vocals are reminiscent of some of the slower songs from Jake Bugg's debut album. The production lends an extra layer to the song, much more than just singer and guitar we heard on his previous record and on the whole it works really well. This feels like a big step forward and hopefully there is more just around the corner. Things seem to be coming together really nicely at the moment for the youngster, gigging across the region regularily, developing his sound and recording and realising quality material.
You can listen and download the single and B-side, 'Love is a Story' from the singers Bandcamp now. The song should be also be available to download from iTunes shortly.
